Mohs Histotechnician – Huntsville, AL area (Permanent Placement)
Location: Huntsville, AL
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday (exact hours TBD)
Compensation: Competitive, based on years of experience, number of cases handled, and number of Mohs surgeons supported
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mohs Technician to join a busy dermatology practice. This is a permanent, full-time position for someone who is confident working independently and can manage all aspects of the Mohs laboratory with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate has extensive Mohs experience, including the ability to process 10+ cases per day as the sole technician. You will be responsible for all laboratory operations, quality assurance, and tissue processing to support real-time surgical diagnosis.
Key Responsibilities
- Process, embed, cut, and stain frozen tissue specimens using microtomy and H&E staining techniques.
- Prepare slides quickly and accurately during live Mohs surgery.
- Perform all QA/QC procedures, maintain CLIA compliance, and manage regulatory documentation.
- Maintain specimen logs, temperature records, and supply inventories.
- Set up and maintain equipment and supplies for Mohs surgery.
- Assist Mohs surgeon in the operating room as needed (prep, assisting, scribing, patient flow).
- Support day-to-day clinic operations as part of the clinical team.
Education & Certification
- Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Associate’s degree in a laboratory science or completion of college-level biology/chemistry coursework.
- Certification: HT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP), or Mohs Technician Certificate preferred but not required. BLS certification a plus.
Experience & Skills
- Required: Prior Mohs lab experience, including independent case cutting (10+ cases/day).
- Strong knowledge of histology and tissue processing.
- Experience with QA/QC processes and CLIA compliance.
- Ability to work independently as the sole Mohs technician.
- Excellent attention to detail, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
