Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) – Nocturnal Inpatient Coverage
Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery Floor Coverage
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide overnight inpatient coverage for Cardiothoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery services. This role is strictly inpatient floor-based with no operating room, procedural surgery, or call responsibilities.
The APP will manage post-operative and medically complex surgical patients in collaboration with attending surgeons and critical care teams.
Schedule:
- Night Shift Schedule: 13-hour shifts (6p–7a), rotation including weekends and holidays
- 12-hour night shifts
- Hours: 6:30 PM – 6:30 AM
Clinical Responsibilities:
Vascular Surgery
- Inpatient coverage for ICU patients (co-managed with Critical Care) and floor patients
- Daily patient assessments, care coordination, documentation, and overnight issue management
Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Inpatient floor-only coverage
- No CT Surgery ICU patients
- Post-operative management, monitoring, and overnight clinical support
Procedures:
- Chest tube management
- Chest tube removal only
- (No chest tube insertion required)
Scope of Practice – Important Notes:
- No operating room responsibilities
- No surgical procedures
- No call
- No ICU coverage for Cardiothoracic Surgery
Qualifications:
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Active North Carolina license (required)
- Active DEA (address change acceptable if currently licensed elsewhere)
- Prior experience in:
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Vascular Surgery
- Surgical inpatient or nocturnal hospital coverage
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently overnight
