Locum Tenens Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP)
Palm Health Resources is seeking experienced Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to provide locum tenens coverage within our Cardiothoracic Surgery program located in Kansas! Located near Kansas City, Kansas!
The position is open due to a retirement. The ideal candidate will possess endovascular vein harvest (EVH) competency and have a strong background in caring for cardiothoracic, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients. Candidates with EVH expertise who are willing to mentor and train two existing APPs in vein harvesting techniques are highly preferred.
Assignment Details
- Specialty: Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Full Continuum of Care Role (Operating Room, ICU, Pre and Post Op) NO CLINIC!
- EMR: Epic
- Coverage Need: M-F, First Assisting, CVOR Surgical APP support. Required to have Endoscopic Vein Harvest (EVH) coverage
- Start Date: ASAP
- Length of Assignment: 6-Months to start
- Schedule: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Coverage Requirements: 24/7 inpatient coverage with call responsibilities
- Patient Volume: Approximately 1–10 patient encounters per shift
Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient cardiothoracic surgery APP coverage.
- Manage pre-operative and post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients.
- Perform endovascular vein harvesting for coronary artery bypass procedures.
- Participate in daily rounds and coordinate patient care with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.
- Respond to inpatient floor calls and EVH-related call responsibilities.
- Assist with management of heart, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for APPs learning EVH techniques.
Call Responsibilities
- Inpatient floor call coverage.
- Endovascular vein harvest (EVH) call coverage.
- Weekend call begins Friday at 5:00 PM and continues through Monday at 7:00 AM.
- Providers will participate in an alternating weekly call schedule.
Qualifications
Required
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
- Eligible for Kansas licensure (IMLC and standard licensure candidates accepted).
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Demonstrated competency in Endovascular Vein Harvest (EVH).
- Ability to independently manage inpatient cardiothoracic surgery patients.
Preferred
- Prior locum tenens experience.
- Experience teaching or mentoring APPs in EVH techniques.
- Familiarity with Epic EMR.
