The Lead Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA) Supervisor will be responsible to provide leadership, direction and supervision to Advanced Practice Providers within the Department of Cardiac Surgery, and provide specialty collaborative patient management under the direction of a board certified/eligible physician. This role is 70% administrative management/projects and 30% OR time/clinical. In this leadership role, daily responsibilities will include the following:
- Organize, oversee, and review assigned duties
- Maintain daily staffing and scheduling based on service needs in the OR, Telemetry, and Outpatient clinic
- Direct, educate and mentor staff in the development of sound clinical judgment (synthesis of clinical data and determination of subsequent plan) to encourage positive patient outcomes
- Assist management with HR management relative to clinical practice as a Physician Assistant, including providing orientation and training
- Develop and supervise program development; participate in designing organizational processes appropriate to area of skill congruent with patient needs and organizational goals
- Create, advise, and influence system level policy that affects innovation in patient care programs
- Participate in and conduct (chairs) house wide committee work where appropriate, which determines and guides clinical policy and practice standards
- Actively participate in the Medical Center’s Performance Improvement Program. The PA Supervisor will periodically assess the quality of patient care delivery and find opportunities for changes in practice, rooted in evidence-based standards of care/protocols
- Perform endoscopic vein harvesting, and assist in surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting, open and closure of chest, cannulation and decannulation, as needed
License/Certification:
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license issued by the State of CA required
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) through successful completion of National Board Examination required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- Current DEA License required
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of PA experience required
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience required
- Experience in endoscopic vein and artery harvesting required
- Radial Harvesting experience preferred
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role is beneficial
